Standing Watch

When most people picture an owl, they imagine one perched high in a tree.  Burrowing owls chose a different path.

These remarkable little birds make their homes underground, often using abandoned burrows to shelter themselves and raise their young.  Though small in stature, they thrive through vigilance, adaptability, and quiet determination.  Their oversized eyes and curious nature are constant reminders that awareness can be just as powerful as strength.

As I painted Standing Watch, I found myself reflecting on the value of staying grounded and remaining watchful.  We often think resilience requires bold action, yet some of life's greatest strength is found in faithfully standing our ground, adapting to changing circumstances, and remaining steadfast when the path isn't easy.
